In Hoi An, basket boat rides are a popular attraction, especially in the Cam Thanh Coconut Village (also called the Bay Mau Water Coconut Forest). These round bamboo boats, locally known as “thung chai”, were originally used by Vietnamese fishermen and are now a unique eco-tourism experience. Basket boat operators are entirely dependent on the influx of tourism who visit Hoi An each year.
