Belize is home to numerous swimming holes, some located in national parks, forest reserves, and sanctuaries. But the majority of them are such as this pictured here, used by local children to cool off on a typical hot Belizean day. Such swimming holes are also used by local chapters of the Church Latter Day Saints as sources of water for bathing or washing clothes. Fetching water from swimming holes or rivers is often a necessity in areas where access to piped water infrastructure is limited or nonexistent.
